Scunthorpe County Court Closing

We have learnt this morning that Scunthorpe Magistrates’ Court, County Court and Family Court are closing.

The HM Courts and Tribunal Service confirmed the news this morning as part of a government ‘modernisation’ plan in which the government has set a target of £500m in savings. In total 86 courts will close across the country, out of a total of 460, a 20% reduction.

Clearly the changes are to limit access to justice with parties to court proceedings soon to be expected to face long and expensive journeys.
